We can get very close, though a perfect match isn’t always possible. Older Chicago oak has aged and takes stain differently than newer wood, so we test colors right on your floor and blend the transitions between rooms. It depends on the finish, but a common guideline is socks-only the next day, light use with clean shoes after 48 to 72 hours, and heavier furniture like beds and sofas after about 3 to 5 days. Wait 7 to 14 days before putting area rugs down so the finish can fully cure. We confirm the exact timing at the final walkthrough, and it’s usually best to stay off the floors while they cure.

A recoat (a buff and a fresh coat of finish, with no sanding to bare wood) works when your floors are structurally sound with only light surface wear, and it’s usually done every 3 to 7 years to keep the finish protected. A full refinish sands down to bare wood to remove deep scratches, gray areas, and worn spots, and floors typically need that every 7 to 10 years, depending on traffic.
