Part of it was an engineered hardwood which was glued directly to the subfloor, and part of it was a laminate floating floor on top of tile. Big Bro removed ALL of the old layers of flooring, down to the subfloor, repaired the subfloor where required, and put down new plywood underlayment.
We decided to pay the extra for the rift and quarter sawn white oak material, and man was it worth it. The new flooring is absolutely beautiful. So much so that although we were originally going to stain it, we decided to go with a clear coat only. Dan (the owner) put down the best of the best, Loba 2k Duo. We couldn’t be happier with the final result and we know the floor is as well protected as possible.
Lastly, the finishing. This also was a harder-than-usual task. Our home has all rounded corners. This meant all the trim had to be installed utilizing the 3-piece mitre method (picture attached). I don’t think it was Dan’s favorite part of the job, but the end result looks excellent.
